The Crossings of Colonie

Date visited: 7/9/2022

Looking at these pictures, it looks like we went to five different places. There are numerous varied landscapes here on these really interesting trails. We have some wide open fields, a busy stretch near a shopping area, a tree maze, a stretch that passes some farm land with cows grazing, and some wooded sections, along with a cool long bridge over some marsh land. The trails are mostly paved, and are very flat. We walked four miles here. My favorite part was when the trails passed by the small body of water that was named on my map, "The Lake". There is one picture of the dogs in front of the lake that featured ducks, geese, a turtle and even a visible fish in the water! We've been having a stretch of great weather lately, and this was no different. It was in the upper 70's here with low humidity. It is a good thing too, because with the lack of shade on much of these trails, this would have been a no-go if it was any warmer. This was a very fun visit on a beautiful day!

Old Military Crossing Loudon's Ford

This is a fishing area next to a hydro-electirc plant. It looked like a good place to take a couple pictures and to let the dogs cool off in the water on a hot day.

Mohawk Hudson Bike Hike Trail

We started the trail at the Corning trail head in Albany, and crossed over into the Menands section of Colonie. The pictures below are from the Colonie section. Check out the Albany page to read more about our trip, and see pictures from that section.

This was the coldest day we've ever gone on an adventure, but we cheated… we went somewhere indoors. This is a dog-friendly indoor shopping mall! With malls struggling around the country, some are finding creative ways to attract visitors, and this one decided to welcome dogs. We encountered numerous dog walkers, making it a great way for pups to get exercise without freezing. We did take a couple of photos outside the mall, but spent most of our time enjoying the warmth inside. Dogs are allowed in some stores, but not on elevators, escalators, in children's play areas, or in the food court. There is a list of dog-friendly retailers on the mall's website. Aside from being dog-friendly, it's a fairly typical two-floor mall. While there were plenty of empty storefronts, most of the space was occupied, so perhaps the dog-friendly approach is working. We ended up lapping the mall about three times, walking just over two and a half miles while staying warm and getting our exercise.
